Interior Design in a Tin - Holloways introduce Edward Bulmer Natural Paints

Interiors

Holloways are now selling Colour with a Conscience, in the form of Edward Bulmer's Natural Paints.

The Colour Expert

Edward Bulmer, one of the countries leading interior designers, has spent the last 30 years working on some of Britain’s finest buildings. He is a interior designer, architectural historian and ‘colourman’, renowned for restoring important heritage buildings. This colour expertise is now available to you in this stunning range of paints. And Edward wanted to be confident in the paints he specified to his clients, confident in their performance and equally in their environmental credentials. Every one of the ingredients - all natural and free of toxins - are printed on every tin.

Beautiful, protective, pure paints made with love and care

There is no huge factory making paint for a number of different brands. Edward Bulmer’s is an artisan business and every tin is mixed and made up at their Herefordshire HQ. Their paint mixers have an expert eye for colour, learned from years of experience and their extremely high standards ensure that colour consistency is guaranteed. They use only natural pigments to give a breadth of colour impossible to replicate with synthetic pigments.

Living, breathing colour

Edward Bulmer’s paint is micro-porous – it lets walls and woodwork breathe naturally and doesn’t form a plastic film to trap moisture and mould. Owners of heritage and listed buildings understand the importance of breathable paints on old plaster, but this is just as important for modern buildings. Don’t trap moisture in your walls.

Where to begin with colour
Colour is crucial. It makes us happy when we get it right! The only rule is to start with what you like.

There are no rules on using colour in your home and the best advice is to go with what you feel comfortable with, what colours you are drawn to, what you enjoy wearing and what makes you feel happy.

Holloways interior designers can now help you to pull colour schemes together with beautiful paints, combining colours in striking contrast or subtle harmony.

All of Edward Bulmer’s colours are from the same tonal family. This makes them easy to combine with the other elements of your interior design schemes. The colour ranges are all in tonal harmony, as they are derived from only twelve natural earth and mineral pigments, used by artists for centuries. This makes them easy to combine with the other elements of your interior design schemes and our Holloways’ interior designers have been trained to help you. There are several tried and tested ways to combine colour to consider.

Coloured walls and white woodwork
An age-old combination that still works well. Paint one colour on the walls and a complementary white for the woodwork, radiators, cornice and ceiling. This style is steeped in history and might be considered traditional, but it is smart, crisp and brings extra lightness into your home. At the same time the contrast makes the main colour look more intense – and is particularly useful if you want to accentuate architectural details. Edward Bulmer Paints guide you to the complementary white and the tonal range for each colour.

Natural Paint Sample Pots

We’ll use Edward Bulmer’s sample pots to help you choose your colours. The experience of our interior designers in using different colours will be invaluable. Paint a piece of card, or lining paper, in your chosen colour, then move your sample around the room at different times of day, and hold it up against fabrics and furnishings. Then you can fully appreciate how the colour will look in your room – and be confident in your choice.

Edward Bulmer Natural Paints are available from Holloways showrooms and can be ordered by phone. They come in 72 colours, in tonal ranges, and the following finishes: Emulsion, Water-based Eggshell, Oil-based Eggshell, Oil Gloss, Distemper and Flat Oil.

Call into our showrooms to see the complete range of paints and collect your sample pots.

If you would like to listen to Edward Bulmer talk about paint, he is appearing at the Hay Festival on 1st June 2017. (Event 341)
