Nature never makes a mistake about colours that look good together, and there is no better starting point for a decorating scheme. Bountiful fruit trees, turning leaves in deep oranges and reds, chestnut brown, burnt orange, walnut, harvest gold… Our autumn gardens are an abundance of colour. If you are just updating, or completely re-decorating this season, why not use autumn’s rich palette of colours for your inspiration. Our interior designers love to work with colour and have put together some ideas to inspire you.

An Autumn-inspired Living Room

Dalmore sofa in Harris Tweed

This compact sofa, either finished in a genuine Harris Tweed or one of a range of luxurious hides, will add a dramatic focus to any living space. The traditional camel back design, with deep buttoning and soft, feather-wrapped seat cushions has a generous amount of seating space. Add a russet footstool and scatters and a soft check throw for seasonal chic. A large display of seasonal flowers is guaranteed to bring the autumn garden indoors. Let it dominate your table, sideboard, or console table, and add twigs or branches, perhaps with leaves that are already changing colour.

Quick Change

Simply replace your scatter cushions and throws to change the season. Add just a couple of seasonally-coloured scatter cushions and a cosy throw to make your sofa a great place to curl up with a book as the evenings draw in. We have a great selection of cushions and throws for every season here at Holloways. It's the best way to give your living room a quick update.

Pull Up a Chair

Aritisan chair in Outback Brown leather and Calvay Occasional chair in Outback Ranch leather

You will soon be lighting the fire to take the chill off the evening, and pulling up a comfortable chair. A leather chair in a autumnal tone is a great piece to add to any style of interior. It will fit with traditional style, or contrast beautifully with a low-back sofa, to provide a different type of seat.

Chestnut and Walnut - Two new shades of paint for Autumn

Our new Neptune Store-in-Store is full of seasonal inspiration. See tones of rust, chestnut and other shades of autumn used imaginatively together with colour texture and design. Explore our new room sets - inspiration for living rooms, dining rooms and open-plan living spaces.

Chestnut
Chestnut reminds us of sitting round the fire with friends and family as the nights draw in. Its autumnal tone lends a room an organic, natural feel that is also vivid and warm, perfect for celebrations and get-togethers. Combine it with our wools, heavy linens and cushion collections for a soft and welcoming look for the winter months. Its warm and friendly tone adds zest to any colour scheme and it is versatile and striking, inside and out.

Walnut
Walnut tiptoes towards black, but with enough brown in its tone to stop it getting too close. It can be both classic and contemporary, and is perfect for bringing an element of strength and contrast when your palette is otherwise soft and pared-back.

An Autumn Forest

Phoenix leather corner sofa, a perfect small-space corner sofa

Perennial fir-tree green is also an Autumn colour - the colour of a pine forest. This modern-industrial living space uses the colours of an autumn forest to complement the rustic floorboards and wall finish. Still cosy with an abundance of cushions and a warm throw. An occasional chair in pale mushroom sustains the forest-inspired colour palette.
